GOD, OPEN MY EYES TO SEE

Seeing Beyond the Obvious Makes You Go Beyond Where You Are

By Deacon Felix Kwasitsu (BNWC Witness Leader) with additional notes by Ps. S. A. Ofei Badu

Main Passage: 2Kings 2:1-14

[Psalm 119:18]

Open my eyes, so that I may see the wonderful truths in your law.

God wanted to show Elisha what HE is is going to do in his life so HE opened his eyes and he saw.
When the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.”
But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. (2 Kings 2:1,2)
Elisha clinged onto Elijah and advanced to Bethel with him.
Wherever you have gotten to in life, you still can go further, for there is something good ahead.
If you are not careful you might be content with where you are and say "Where I have gotten to is good and I can rest". But if God opens your eyes you'll see that you can still become better & Better & BETTER.
If you will allow God to speak to you, doors will open to you: And you will know that those for us are more than those against us; what is in us is greater than what is before us

The approximate meanings of the places that marked Elijah and Elisha’s journey are as follows

Gilgal – Rolling

Bethel – House of God

Jericho – Fragrant

Jordan – Descender

Elijah instructed Elisha to remain at the first three places, as he moved along, but Elijah refused. At the Jordan He did not as Him to remain, rather, he gave him a greater challenge to remain vigilant and actually to follow Him to the end.

Gilgal may represent for us a place of indecision,

Bethel may represent for us making the house of God, the church our final comfort zone, a fetish, which we see as the end of our call to serve God, rather than a place of retreat for strength to reach out

Jericho may represent for us a point in our lives where we feel good about ourselves and environment, and would not want anything changed. That was the last place Elisha was begged to remain (Here the sons of the prophets were covertly rebuked by Elisha for just talking about what God had opened their eyes to see, without making any productive moves beyond showing off their revelation)

Jordan may represent for us, a place of humility, where we willingly give up our comfort for the sake of the Lord’s work (Here, Elisha had the privilege of seeing the miracle of the Jordan parting once more close at hand, and Elijah showed Him why he should pursue what he had seen (his vision), rather than what men (no matter who they were) said.

After Elisha had fully DECIDED, COME THOUGH THE HOUSE OF GOD, REJECTED FEEL-GOODISM, and HUMBLED himself, he was strengthened and directed to receive the end of his perseverance, a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.

One has ascended the heavens for us, even Christ Jesus;

1. Have you made a decision to follow Him?

2. Have you joined the House of God and seen it’s purpose?

3. Have you tasted the earthly triumphs of His death and resurrection?

4. Have you denied yourself for His sake?

5. Have you received the power of His Holy Spirit, of which He said, it was better for Him to depart that, in order that He (the Holy Spirit) might come?

Then the Lord has really opened your eyes to see…

Do not remain at the other side of the Jordan, filled with His power, part the Jordan once more, and let greater works follow you…

John 14:12
