PREPARING FOR YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION


Ø  Failing to plan is planning to fail
1.   PLAN: Luke 14:28
2.   BUT LEAN ON GOD: Prov. 3:5-6
3.   EVEN GOD PLANNED: Gen. 1:9-11
Ø  Where did you reach? What is your highest academic standard?
Ø  Higher academic standard is not an ultimate but basic education is a necessity for one to progress faster.

4.   PLAN FOR THE FOLLOWING DEVELOPMENTS OF YOUR CHILD:
                                 i.            Psyche- intellectual (mind).
                                ii.            Motor- physical (hands).
                              iii.            Emotional- character
                               iv.            Spiritual- religious.
                                                                                                                                      

5.   KEEP RECORDS OF YOUR CHILD’S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE TO:
                              i.            Identify their potentials/talents for more activation.
                           ii.            Identify their weaknesses for upgrading.
                        iii.            Correct emotional deviation.

6.   WATCH THEM PLAY AMONG COLLEAGUES/SIBLINGS.
7.   ASK OF THEIR CAREERS PERIODICALLY (THOUGH THEY MAY EXPERIENCE FLUCTUATING CAREERS).
8.   TAKE THEM TO PROFESSIONAL PLACES (school, hospital, court, bank). FOLLOW UP WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR IMPRESSIONS.
9.   SEEK TECHNICAL ADVICE FROM AN EDUCATIONIST FROM THE UPPER PRIMARY.
10.                     THEIR CAREERS SHOULD CORRESPOND WITH COURSES OFFERED BY SCHOOLS TO BE SELECTED.

11.                     FINANCIAL PREPARATION
                                 i.            Have an insurance policy/kiddy savings for your wards.
                                ii.            You may start with International School but can shift to public to save funds for SHS.
                              iii.            Get a school closer to your house to enable the child to get home early for enough rest.

                               iv.            You may have to employ a subject teacher for your wards in the public school to supplement their tuition.

MATERIAL PREPARATION
         Buy the following imperishable items in advance.
                                 i.            Foam mattress
                                ii.            Trunk
                              iii.            Towel/Sponge
                               iv.            Cutlery set
                                v.            Undies/singlets/vests
                               vi.            Tooth/Shoe brush
                             vii.            Belt/shoe/sandals/socks
                            viii.            White bed-sheet
                               ix.            Night-Tees/Pyjamas
                                x.            Maths set/Exercise-note books
                               xi.            Pullover/raincoat/ umbrella

PLAN FOR THE TOTAL DEVELOPMENT OF YOUR WARDS TO MAKE THEM EDUCATION MEANINGFUL, USEFUL TO THEMSELVES, THEIR FAMILY, THEIR COUNTRY AND ABOVE ALL, THE CHURCH.

13.                     ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS
a.        Why is your child attending that Preparatory/International School?
                                 i.            Because there is no public school in my area.
                                ii.            The public school is poorly managed and resourced.
                              iii.            There is no discipline in the public school.
                                   iv.            My wealth and social standards call for a Preparatory/International School for my children.



b.        Is the intellectual level of your child coping with the speedy work at the Preparatory School?
c.        Do you have any of the teachers in the school – public and preparatory – as your friend to brief you on the performance of your child?
d.        How often do you give parcels to teachers in the public school where your child is?
e.        Does your income meet the level of school fees of your child?

f.         Do you see it as a disgrace transferring your child from the preparatory school to any good public school?
g.        Why do you still maintain your child in the private preparatory school?
h.        Would you like your child to attend a private secondary school? Explain.
Would you like your child to attend a private university? Explain.
