Does The Lord Still Have Need of You?
There is a part of salvation called deliverance. We are set
free from Satan’s control, sin, guilt or defiled conscience, demon possession,
poverty, sickness, etc. His humility, suffering, and death paid the penalty and
broke the bondage for us. We will however enjoy this deliverance only to the
extent that we bear the Lord’s yoke. In today’s sermon, we look at how Jesus’
triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey shows the process of
our deliverance and the nature of the Lord’s yoke. We ask and answer the
question: What happens to your burdens and bondage when the Lord has no need of
you.

A Quick
Study of the Details of the Freed Colt’s Story
The Donkey that Jesus Sat On
1. It was a
foal (never before sat on) – represents young, newly born or born again
2. It was by
nature destined to bear increasingly heavy earthly burdens – Guilt of Sins,
worries and cares (See Job 5:7, 1Peter 5:7)
3. Was tied up,
in bondage of its owners: Anybody and anything that can claim you legitimately
– Satan and the enticements of sin(for all who have sinned and walk solely in
earthly ways – See John 8: 32,33, 44; 14:30, Ephesians 2:2);
4. Jesus
ordered that it be set free, but only for His use (See Matthew 11:28; 1
Corinthians 6:19,20)
5. The owner
knows the Lord, whoever he was, though he was not following the Lord at that
time
6. It was set
free because the Lord hath need of it. Anyone that is saved of Christ does not
live unto himself any longer (See Matthew 10:38, Galatians 5:13)
7. It is not
clear how it was delivered to the Lord: Probably, it was led, pushed or sat on
to be directed, but it got to the Lord
8. It was
adorned, prepared for the Master’s use as they lay garments on it. It is our
obligation to allow ourselves to be rid of all filth; The Lord clothes us with
His righteousness (See James 1:21, Philippians 3:9)
9. It bore a
glorious burden, the ministry of the Lord.
10. It was not
required to do anything stranger than what it was created to do: We are created
to bear the image of God and worship Him. Our righteous living is His image
(See Matthew 5, Romans 12):
a. Our
intercession
b. Our showing
mercy
c. Our peace
making
d. Our
suffering reproach for the sake of the Gospel
e. Our
gentleness
11. So long as
it was in the service of the Lord, it was free of its masters: If the Lord no
longer hath need of it, the owner or thieves repossessed it.
12. The Lord is
above, and the donkey below: What provision the Lord’s presence brings falls to
it, though it does not demand it
Key Lessons:
1. When the
Lord has need of you, He takes care of your needs, as He promised (Matthew
6:33)
2. Only you
can make yourself needless to the Lord
3. It is very
unattractive to be needless to the Lord:
a. Salt that
loses its saltiness is poured out and trampled underfoot (Matt 5:13)
b. Delivered
demoniacs are repossessed (Matthew 12:42-45)
c. Those who
fail to take up the cross daily to follow Him are unworthy of the Lord (Matthew
10:38)
d. Those who
try to serve other masters are considered out of commission (Matthew 6:24; 1
Corinthians 3:14-15, John 6:27)
e. Freedom for
its own sake does not exist: You will find rest only under His yoke (Matthew
11:28-30)
4. The Lord’s
Yoke is Not Burdensome:
a. It begins
with the normal things we are made for
b. The Lord
prepares us for it
c. We grow in
it
d. As we serve
Him/glorify Him/allow Him to use us as He desires, His glory covers us
Conclusion
Bearing the Lord’s yoke is our deliverance. If we make
ourselves unfit to bear His yoke by refusing to serve Him daily, our burdens
remain, though we count ourselves saved. Let us move from a stagnant place of salvation
without deliverance and grow from grace to grace through yoke bearing. Let
us stop pretending that we do not know how to serve Him, or that serving Him is
the calling and duty or a select few. Let us count it a huge privilege to serve
the Lord. Serving Him is not burdensome, rather it sets us free! Read the
times. Look at ministry needs of our generation, and continue preparing
yourself for the Lord to ever have need of you.
