Main Text Acts20:35; Deuteronomy 16:17
"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
"Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee."

What is Giving?
A dictionary defined giving as disposing of property by voluntary transfer without receiving value in return.
Note these important words in the definition
· Disposing: parting or transferring ownership of something to another
· Voluntary: willingly without force
· Without receiving: you give, not expecting to have anything back

"Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just." (Luke 14: 12-14)

Types of Giving
  • Substance/Property (Proverbs 3:9; Acts 4:34; Acts 2:45)
  • Jewels/Money (Exodus 35:24; 1 Kings 15:15)
  • Body/Life (Romans 12:1)
  • Strength/Time (Ecclesiastes 12:1) Note that the ‘youth’ signifies ‘strength.’
  • Advice/Counsel (Exodus 18:19; Judges 20:7)

Reasons For Giving As A Christian
  1. It’s a command (Malachi 3:10; Acts 20:35)
  2. To be blessed (Acts 20:35; Galatians 6:9; 2Thesalonians 3:13)
  3. To help others (Acts 2:45)
  4. You lend to God when you give to the poor (Proverbs 19:17)

Benefits Of Giving
  1. You shall be rewarded (Galatians 6:9)
  2. Your cry shall be heard (Proverbs 21:13)
  3. God will rebuke the devourer for your (Malachi 3:11)
  4. You shall receive whatever you give (Luke 6:38)
  5. You can invoke the presence of the God (1 Kings 3:4,5)
Conclusion
Try to be a person of value, not a person of success
