Sermon By Elder ABRAHAM LAM CUDJOE

Main Text: JEREMIAH 9:22-24

"Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD."

What do you posses that you think is a personal quality that you can rest upon / rely upon. Is it your intelligence, strength, financial capacity or personal integrity? Let us not boast of the worldly possessions or knowledge we have acquired .

Galatians 6:14,15
"But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature."

Dear one, we have been called to live a life that is to devoid of all such things. We are to understand the mission of our call. What is it that God has called us to achieve/accomplish?

1 Corinthians 1:26-31
"For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
That no flesh should glory in his presence.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." (KJV)

Who is God to Me/You?
  • The God who knows the length/breadth of the earth
  • The God who loves justice, kindness and righteousness

The wisdom of the world is foolishness in the sight of god. We have come to agree with the terms of this world (worldly standards and conventions) and the church is gradually being taken over by the world.

King Solomon is the wisest man to ever live, but Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the commandments of the Lord, so the Lord said He will take his kingdom and give it to his servant. (1 Kings 11:1-6)

Samson, the strongest man ever to live on earth, lost his strength through a woman who, and was captured by his enemies (the Philistines) who put out his eyes and bound him in chains. (Judges 16:19-30)

The wisdom of God is what the people of God need. The gift (precious blood of Christ) has sanctified us and we are expected to demonstrate this knowledge/wisdom of God.

Comments

  1. People tend to admire three things in this life; human wisdom, strength & riches but God puts a higher priority on knowing him personally & living a life that reflects his justice & righteousness.

  2. You know God, if you know that on earth He exercises
    1. Loving kindness
    2. Justice
    3. Righteousness

We thank Elder Lam for availing himself for God to challenge us about our knowledge of Him through him.
