THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP

Sunday 30 December 2012
Sermon by  Elder Dominic Osei Bonsu,
Topic: The cost of Discipleship: The fellowship of the Holy Spirit

If you really know the one whom you have come to, you will walk shoulder high, you will not be intimidated by life circumstances.
Isaiah prophesied about the coming of Jesus Christ - one that will come in all glory. He is to be crowned King of Kings & Lord of Lords. He is the one who surpasses all.
Job puts it this way'nothing can hinder the Lord from doing anything". He is the God who knows all things and is at all places.

If you will really know the Lord and know him very well, He (Prince of Peace) will grant you peace. The Lord whom we serve of which we have become disciples, if only the eyes of our heart are enlightened will we understand without doubt that He is our sustain-er, nourish-er and gives life to all who come to Him.

The Lord whose disciple I have become is light. there is therefore no one who walks in Him who who walks in darkness. Being a disciple of Christ implies having fellowship/communion with Him.

If only we remain in constant fellowship with the son, we will lack absolutely nothing. His promises have all been fulfilled. This is enough assurance that there is nothing He will not do for us.

Believe in Jesus Christ, believe also in His father. There is no lie in Him, only have constant fellowship with Him. The Lord will deliver you from whatever it is if only you remain in Him.

Jabez saw how his God was like; he therefore sent all his troubles to him because  he knew He was more than able to save him.

"Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." -John 14:23

Let us strive to have constant fellowship with Jesus Christ:

  • In prayer
  • In sharing the word of God and applying its truths. It is only the word of God that will bring us victory. Do you want to be wise? Go to the word, read it, study it, meditate on it and apply the truth thereof. "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish." Psalm 1:1-5. You will experience His glory and manifest His goodness when you do this
  • In holiness and righteousness: Sin produces death, disgrace and dishonour. Holy living produces life, honour and victory in this life.
  • In working for the Lord and His church: What grace or giftings have you been endowed with? Are you utilizing it like a faithful servant should.
Disciple, seve your Lord well so that you can be a faithful servant when He appears again.

Amen!
