EVANGELISM, AN ACT OF WORSHIPING THE LORD IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
Sunday 28 April 2013
Sermon by Elder Emmanuel Danquah
JOHN
4:23-24
Matthew 28:
18-20, Mark 16:15
The two scriptures speak on one
thing that is Jesus telling us to go into the world and preach the gospel to
all.
So do you know Jesus Christ who
has sent you or you have just accepted his name. Yes or No?
If No how can you testify or be
a witness about him.
Jesus asked his disciples that “Who
do people say the Son of Man is”? And some answered him by saying “You are John
the Baptist” some said you are Elijah and others said “Jeremiah or one of the
prophets”.
And Jesus also asked them by saying” who do
you say I am? And Peter said “You are
the Christ, the son of the Living God” (Matthew 16:13-19)
The reason why Jesus asked them
this is to know if they know him so that after he is no more they can continue
spreading the good news about him.
This tells us that any body who
has accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour should know him well so he or
she can tell or evangelise about him.
So the apostle Paul said that “Your attitude should be the same as that of
Christ Jesus” (Phillipians 2: 5)
What are some of the attitude that Christ had?
For the Son of Man came to seek
and save what was lost (Luke 19:10)
The scripture that we just read
teaches us that: he has sent us to go and seek the lost and preach the good
news and save them as well.
Why should we preach the good news to unbelievers?
(a)
Because it is every believers responsibility and
work that has been given him to do(Matt 28:18-20, Mark 16:15)
(b)
We must let the world know that “Salvation is
found in-one else for there is no other name under heaven and on earth given to
men by which we must be saved except Jesus” (Acts 4:12).
(c)
Others have taken Christ name upon them but do
not worship him in truth, they do not do what Christ like but do what they like
by lying and envying people etc.
This is why we must evangelize or witness about Christ to all people of
the world.
If we don’t witness about Christ
to others what consequences will they face?
(a)
It brings lots of sin into our society eg idol
worship, murder, idolatry, stealing, divorce, Drug Abuse and Alcohol drinking
etc.
(b) For the sinful man has his
punishment. You who did not preach the good news to him also will have your
punishment. (Ezekiel 3:17-19, Mark 8:38)
(c) Because of this it is expected of every Christian to preach the good
news to unbelievers because we cherish their blood.
If we preach the good news what benefits does we receive as Christians?
(a)
If we preach the good news for even a soul to
repent, heaven rejoice (Luke 15:7)
(b)
It reduces the rate at which people sin and it
brings happiness in our earthly living.
(c)
When our
time is up and Christ calls us, those who preach the good news for people to
repent from their sin to become Christians, will shine like stars forever.
(Daniel 12: 3)
If we don’t preach the good news, we will have an answer to give in the
presence of the lord in future and when we preach too we have a good gift that
the Lord will give to us.
My prayer and plea is that, we will be able to preach the good news and
witness about Christ to all creatures. Its strength is from the lord.
A time is coming and now is the time that the true preachers will preach
the gospel in spirit and in truth and those who do that are those who God
seeks.
God
is spirit and those who preach the good news about him must preach in spirit
and in truth.
Amen!!
